What this 8-bit SAR ADC brings to the board
The MAX11643EEG+ is an 8-bit SAR ADC with 16 single-ended inputs and a 300k samples-per-second throughput, communicating over an SPI bus.
16 channels, one ADC — how the mux works
Sixteen single-ended inputs feed into a single SAR core through an internal analog multiplexer. The 1:1 S/H-to-ADC ratio means each conversion samples and holds the selected channel before digitizing — no pipeline delay between channels. For scanning multiple signals, the SPI command selects the next channel; the throughput drops proportionally as you cycle through inputs. If you need simultaneous sampling across channels, this isn't the part — you'd want a multi-ADC device. But for sequential monitoring of 16 points on one bus, the MAX11643EEG+ keeps the wiring simple.
