250k samples per second, 16-bit SAR — what that means for your measurement chain
The MAX11163EUB+T is a 16-bit successive-approximation-register (SAR) ADC that samples at 250k samples per second (SPS) — fast enough to capture audio-band signals or monitor a dozen sensor channels in a round-robin scan without aliasing below 125 kHz. The pseudo-differential input lets you reject common-mode noise on a single-ended signal by tying the low side to a reference — handy when your sensor ground is a few millivolts above the ADC ground on a long cable run. It talks over SPI or DSP serial interface, so it hooks straight into any microcontroller with a spare SPI port — no need for a parallel bus or glue logic.
Package and temperature grade — can I hand-solder it?
Housed in a 10-pin uMAX/uSOP (3.00 mm width, 0.118" pitch), this is a hand-solderable SMD package — a fine-tip iron and some flux will do the job, no hot-air station required. Surface-mount only — no through-hole variant, but the 0.65 mm pin pitch is breadboard-friendly with a SOIC-8 adapter board.
Supply rails and reference — keeping the analog and digital domains separate
Reference is external — you pick the voltage reference that matches your full-scale input range, which also lets you ratiometric-measure a bridge sensor against its own excitation. Single-ended input, one channel, with a 1:1 S/H-to-ADC ratio — no mux settling time to budget, just one conversion per trigger.
