8-bit SAR ADC with flexible input mux
The Maxim Integrated MAX1110EAP+ is an 8-bit successive-approximation (SAR) ADC with a built-in input multiplexer, sample-and-hold, and SPI serial interface. It accepts either differential or single-ended inputs, configurable as 4 differential or 8 single-ended channels. The single 2.7 V to 5.5 V supply powers both the analog and digital sections, simplifying rail design in mixed-signal systems. Typical applications include portable instrumentation, battery-monitoring circuits, and industrial sensor interfaces where moderate-speed data acquisition is needed.
Differential vs single-ended input selection
The input configuration is set by the mux — 4 differential pairs or 8 single-ended lines. Differential mode rejects common-mode noise on the input lines, useful when the sensor signal travels a few feet of cable in an electrically noisy environment. Single-ended mode doubles the channel count for local signals referenced to the same ground. The external or internal reference option lets you match the ADC span to the sensor output range without an extra reference IC.
Package and temperature grade
Housed in a 20-pin SSOP (0.209" body width, 5.30 mm), the MAX1110EAP+ is a surface-mount part suited for compact PCBs. The -40°C to 85°C operating range covers industrial environments — factory-floor sensor modules, outdoor telecom enclosures, and under-hood automotive auxiliary systems (non-safety-rated). The ROHS3-compliant, lead-free finish is current for EU and global RoHS directives.
Sourcing and lifecycle
The MAX1110EAP+ carries an Active lifecycle status with ROHS3 compliance. No direct pin-compatible second source is listed in the Maxim portfolio, so dual-sourcing would require a board-level evaluation of functionally equivalent 8-bit SAR ADCs from other vendors.
