What this ADC brings to the board
The MAX1038AEEE+T is an 8-bit successive-approximation register (SAR) ADC from Analog Devices, built for applications that need a fast, simple conversion path without the overhead of a parallel bus. It samples at 188k samples per second over an I²C interface — enough throughput for multi-channel sensor acquisition, motor-current monitoring, or power-rail supervision in industrial gear. The part handles 6 differential or 12 single-ended inputs through an internal mux, so you can route a handful of analog signals to a single converter and save board space. Supply is a single 5V rail for both analog and digital sections, which simplifies the power tree on a mixed-signal board. The 16-QSOP package is a compact surface-mount footprint, and the industrial temperature range from -40°C to 85°C means it can live in an outdoor cabinet or an unvented enclosure without derating concerns.
Sampling rate and input flexibility
The 188k samples-per-second rate captures a few hundred Hz of signal bandwidth with margin for anti-alias filtering. The input mux offers six differential pairs or twelve single-ended channels.
