RS232 transceiver with built-in isolation and power
The Analog Devices LTM2882IV-5#PBF is a complete galvanically isolated RS232 transceiver in a µModule® package. It integrates four RS232 channels (two drivers, two receivers), a magnetic isolation barrier rated for 2500 Vrms, and an isolated DC-DC converter on the secondary side — all in a single 32-BLGA package. The part supports data rates up to 10 Mbps, making it suitable for high-speed RS232 links in industrial automation, medical equipment, and instrumentation where ground loops or voltage differences between systems must be blocked. Magnetic coupling gives it a common-mode transient immunity of 30 kV/µs, so it holds data integrity in noisy environments like motor drives or power converters.
What the 2500 Vrms isolation and 30 kV/µs CMTI mean for your design
The 2500 Vrms isolation rating is the withstand voltage between the logic-side and line-side circuits.
Package, temperature range, and supply voltage
Housed in a 32-BLGA (15 mm × 11.25 mm) package, the LTM2882IV-5#PBF is surface-mount and intended for standard reflow soldering. The LGA footprint has no thermal pad — heat dissipation is through the package body and PCB copper, so consider the ambient temperature and airflow if running near the maximum data rate and full channel load.
