Isolated RS422/RS485 transceiver with integrated power — 20 Mbps, 2500 Vrms
The LTM2881MPY-3#PBF is an Analog Devices µModule isolated RS422/RS485 transceiver that integrates a magnetic-coupled digital isolator, a differential line transceiver, and an isolated DC/DC converter in a single 32-BBGA package. It delivers up to 20 Mbps data rate with 2500 Vrms galvanic isolation and 30 kV/µs common-mode transient immunity, making it suitable for noise-prone industrial networks, motor drives, and instrumentation where ground loops must be broken.
2500 Vrms isolation and 30 kV/µs CMTI — what they mean for a noisy bus
The 2500 Vrms isolation rating is the withstand voltage between the logic-side and bus-side domains, tested per the component-level standard. Combined with 30 kV/µs common-mode transient immunity, this part handles the fast voltage transients found in variable-frequency drives and switched-mode power supplies without corrupting the data stream. The 20 Mbps data rate supports Profibus and other high-speed RS485 protocols.
-55°C to 105°C — military temperature grade for harsh environments
Most isolated RS485 parts top out at 85°C; the LTM2881MPY-3#PBF's extended range is a differentiator for engine-bay, solar-field, or outdoor telecom equipment where ambient heat is a factor.
Integrated isolated power — one part replaces three
The µModule includes an on-chip isolated DC/DC converter, so no external transformer or separate isolated supply is needed. This saves board area and simplifies the BOM compared to discrete approaches using a separate isolator, transceiver, and isolated power module.
