Programmable silicon oscillator for low-power timing
The LTC6990CDCB#TRPBF is a silicon oscillator from the TimerBlox® family, covering 488 Hz to 1 MHz with a single external resistor setting the frequency. The 6-WFDFN exposed pad package (6-DFN 2x3 mm) keeps the footprint small for dense layouts.
Supply voltage and current draw
Operating from 2.25 V to 5.5 V, the LTC6990CDCB#TRPBF covers common 3.3 V and 5 V rails without an external regulator. The 235 µA supply current is the typical draw at no load; actual consumption scales slightly with frequency but stays well below 500 µA across the range. This current is the sum of the oscillator core and the output driver — the output can drive a CMOS load of a few pF without a buffer.
Package and mounting
The 6-WFDFN exposed pad package (6-DFN 2x3 mm) requires a thermal pad on the PCB for heat sinking — the exposed paddle is the primary thermal path. The 0.50 mm pitch demands a 2-layer board at minimum; a 4-layer board with a thermal via array under the pad improves thermal transfer. The part is ROHS3 compliant.
Temperature grade and operating environment
Not qualified for automotive (no AEC-Q) or extended industrial use. The silicon oscillator architecture avoids the startup reliability issues of ceramic resonators at temperature extremes.
Lifecycle and supply posture
The Tape & Reel (TR) and Cut Tape (CT) packaging options support both prototyping and volume reels. No official second-source or direct replacement is listed; the closest functional sibling is the LTC6990CS6#TRPBF in a SOT-23-6 package, which shares the same frequency range and supply voltage but uses a different footprint. For BOM positions where the 6-DFN package is locked, the LTC6990CDCB#TRPBF is the only direct fit.
