Active I²C hot-swap buffer for multi-board backplanes
The LTC4300A-2IMS8#PBF is an I²C bus buffer and accelerator from Analog Devices, designed to isolate bus capacitance and allow live card insertion into a powered backplane without corrupting the clock or data lines.
What the 2-channel hot-swap buffer does for your bus
Two independent buffer channels each present a 10 pF input capacitance to the upstream bus, isolating the main bus from the capacitance of a daughter card or module being hot-plugged. The accelerator function pulls up the rising edge faster than a passive pull-up resistor, allowing a higher total bus capacitance while staying within the 400 kHz timing budget. Supply current is 5.1 mA typical, which is the quiescent draw when the bus is idle — the dynamic current during data transmission adds a small pulse per edge.
RoHS3 compliant (ROHS3 Compliant), suitable for EU and global markets requiring the latest RoHS exemption list.
