Hot swap and OR-ing control in one controller
The Analog Devices LTC4227IUFD-4#PBF is a single-channel Hot Swap Controller combined with an OR Controller, designed for general-purpose power management where a board needs both inrush current limiting during insertion and a low-loss diode-OR function for redundant supply feeds. It operates from a 2.9V to 18V supply rail and draws 2 mA of supply current. The controller does not integrate the power switch — you supply the external N-channel MOSFET, which gives flexibility to size the pass element for the load current your design actually needs.
Programmable inrush and fault handling
Three programmable features — Current Limit, Fault Timeout, and Slew Rate — let you tune the startup ramp and the overcurrent response to match the downstream bulk capacitance and the upstream supply's sag tolerance. The Auto Retry feature means the controller will keep trying to restart after a fault clears, which is useful for systems that ride through temporary overloads rather than latching off. The UVLO (Undervoltage Lockout) threshold is also adjustable via the resistor divider on the UV pin, so you can set the turn-on voltage to prevent the MOSFET from operating in its linear region when the input rail is too low.

Rated for the industrial temperature range of -40°C to 85°C, this controller suits outdoor telecom cabinets, factory-floor motor drives, and base-station line cards where the ambient sees seasonal extremes.
