What the 5.6 A output means for your backplane design
The LTC4219CDHC-12#PBF is a single-channel hot swap controller with an integrated 5.6 A max output switch, letting you safely insert a 2.9 V to 15 V board into a live backplane without glitching the shared supply rail. The internal switch eliminates the external MOSFET and sense resistor that a controller-only solution needs, saving board area in a 16-DFN (5x3 mm) footprint.
Programmable current limit and fault timeout
You set the inrush current ramp rate and the fault-timer duration through external components — the controller limits the current during startup and, if the fault persists past the timeout, latches off the switch. The thermal-limit and undervoltage-lockout (UVLO) features protect the pass element and the downstream load during brownout or over-temperature conditions.
Supply current and temperature range
The controller draws 1.6 mA from the input supply, a low enough quiescent current that it does not materially affect the power budget of a 5 A card.
