Single-cell Li-Ion charger in a 2x2 mm DFN
The LTC4059AEDC#TRMPBF from Analog Devices is a constant-current, constant-voltage linear charger for single-cell Lithium-Ion batteries. It terminates at 4.2 V and delivers a programmable charge current up to 900 mA. The device operates over the -40°C to 85°C temperature range, suiting it for industrial and outdoor portable equipment such as handheld instruments, wireless sensors, and battery-backed IoT nodes.
Charge current and thermal budget
The 900 mA maximum charge current is set via an external resistor. At full current the linear regulator dissipates heat proportional to the input-to-battery voltage drop.
Package and footprint
The part comes in a 6-lead WFDFN with an exposed pad (supplier device package 6-DFN, 2x2 mm). It is surface-mount only. The small footprint saves board area but demands careful solder-paste stencil design for the pad to avoid voids.
