Multi-chemistry charger for industrial and automotive battery management
The LTC4020IUHF#PBF from Linear Technology (now part of Analog Devices) is a multi-chemistry battery charger controller in the PowerPath™ series. It handles Li-Ion, LiFePO4, lead-acid, and other chemistries via a constant-current programmable charge algorithm. The 55V maximum supply voltage lets it work directly from 12V to 48V input rails — think telecom rectifiers, automotive bus voltages, or solar panel outputs — without an extra pre-regulator. Operating junction temperature from -40°C to 125°C qualifies it for under-hood automotive, outdoor telecom cabinets, and factory-floor charging stations where ambient heat is a given.
55V input — what it means for your BOM
The 55V supply max covers 36V nominal battery stacks with margin and handles 48V telecom rails including transients. The LTC4008EGN#PBF tops out at 28V, limiting it to 24V systems or lower.
Active production — no LTB contingency needed
The LTC4020IUHF#PBF carries an Active lifecycle status. For a BOM line that needs a multi-chemistry charger, this part can be specified into new designs without planning a last-time-buy or qualifying a replacement down the road. The ROHS3 compliance is current — no exemption-phase-out concern.
Package and thermal: 38-QFN with exposed pad
Housed in a 38-lead WFQFN with exposed pad, measuring 5x7mm. The pad must be soldered to a copper plane for thermal relief — the charging current is constant-programmable, and at higher set currents the QFN's thermal impedance demands a solid PCB thermal path. Surface-mount only; no through-hole option.
Sourcing this part
The LTC4020IUHF#PBF is sourced through independent distribution and quoted to order against an RFQ. For dual-sourcing flexibility, the LTC4020EUHF#PBF is the same die with an identical 55V rating and 38-QFN package, differing only in temperature screening — a viable second-source candidate for builds that don't require the full -40 to 125°C range.
