PMBus-programmable single-phase buck controller
The LTC3883IUH#TRPBF from Analog Devices is a single-phase synchronous step-down switching regulator controller that brings digital power-system management to a compact 32-QFN package. It belongs to the PolyPhase® family and integrates an I²C / PMBus serial interface for real-time telemetry and configuration — output voltage, current limits, sequencing, and fault thresholds are set over the bus, trimming the need for external resistor dividers and trimming pots on the production line. The controller drives external N-channel MOSFETs and supports clock synchronization for multi-rail phase-spreading to reduce input ripple. Rated for the full -40°C to 125°C junction temperature range, it fits telecom, industrial, and datacom power stages where remote monitoring and margining are required.
Package and mounting
The Vcc supply range of 4.5 V to 24 V covers common intermediate bus voltages without an extra bias regulator. The PMBus interface (clocked over I²C) lets a system controller read output voltage, current, and temperature, and dynamically adjust the output during operation.
Package and rework considerations
The 32-lead WFQFN with exposed pad (5 mm × 5 mm body) is a common footprint for power controllers. The thermal pad under the package must be soldered to a copper plane for heat sinking — a standard reflow profile for QFN works, but hand rework with hot air is feasible if the board has adequate solder mask between the pad and adjacent vias.
Active production, no end-of-life concern
No last-time-buy or obsolescence notice has been issued. For new designs or BOM maintenance, the part is available through independent distribution and can be quoted against an RFQ.
