16-bit SAR ADC with SPI — what the 200k SPS rating means for your measurement chain
The LTC1609ISW#PBF is a 16-bit successive-approximation-register (SAR) ADC from Analog Devices, sampling at 200k samples per second over a single-ended input. The SAR architecture gives you deterministic conversion latency — no pipeline delay — which matters when you are multiplexing several analog channels and need a settled result per channel before switching. The SPI data interface keeps the digital side clean: three or four wires to the host MCU, no parallel bus routing. With a 5 V analog and digital supply, this part fits into existing 5 V signal-chain designs without a separate rail for the ADC core.
Industrial temperature range and package fit
Rated from -40°C to 85°C, the LTC1609ISW#PBF covers the industrial temperature grade — suitable for motor-drive feedback, outdoor instrumentation, and factory-automation I/O modules where the ambient can swing well beyond commercial limits. The 20-SOIC (7.50 mm width) wide-body package is a standard footprint for multi-channel isolation or high-voltage spacing on the board. Supplied in Tube, which is the typical handling format for hand-assembly or low-volume production runs.
Sourcing and lifecycle
For BOM planning, the active status removes the urgency to qualify a drop-in replacement today, though it is always prudent to maintain a second-source option for long-life designs.
