At 50 mA continuous output, this part is sized for low-power loads such as sensor bias supplies, op-amp rails, or microcontroller I/O voltage references. The charge pump topology avoids the inductor required by a buck-boost converter, simplifying the BOM and reducing radiated EMI — but the 50 mA ceiling means it cannot drive relays, solenoids, or communication transceivers that draw peak current above that level. For industrial or automotive temperature grades, a different regulator from the LTC family would be needed.

The non-synchronous rectifier topology means the external Schottky diode is not required — the internal switches handle both the charging and discharging phases.
