Product details

Half-duplex RS485 transceiver in a through-hole DIP

The LTC1485IN8#PBF is a single-channel half-duplex transceiver supporting both RS422 and RS485 protocols, with one driver and one receiver on-chip. The 60 mV receiver hysteresis filters out noise on long cable runs — a practical margin for differential signals that have already lost a few hundred millivolts to IR drop and ground offset on a 4000-foot RS485 bus.

Housed in an 8-lead PDIP (0.300-inch body width, 7.62mm pitch), the through-hole package is a breadboard and legacy-repair staple. The 8-DIP footprint matches the industry-standard 0.100-inch row spacing — no board spin needed if the existing layout already carries a DIP-8 socket. Supplied in tube packaging, not tape-and-reel. For low-volume builds or prototype runs the tube is fine; a pick-and-place line expects a tube feeder or a manual hand-place step.

Frequently asked questions

Will LTC1485IN8#PBF drop into a board designed for ADM485JNZ?

The ADM485JNZ is a functional peer — same half-duplex RS422/RS485 protocol, same 1/1 driver/receiver count, same through-hole DIP-8 package. The receiver hysteresis also differs slightly (70 mV vs 60 mV). Electrically the pinout is compatible, so a drop-in swap is possible if the thermal range fits the application.
