What this Silent Switcher®2 regulator brings to the board
The LT8645SEV#PBF is a Silent Switcher®2 family step-down buck regulator from Analog Devices, delivering 8 A continuous output from a 3.4 V to 65 V input rail. The wide input range covers everything from a 12 V industrial bus to a 48 V telecom supply without an external pre-regulator. Output is adjustable from 0.97 V up to 12 V, set by a resistor divider on the feedback pin. The single positive output uses internal synchronous rectification, so no external Schottky catch diode is needed — saves a component and a placement step.
Switching frequency and thermal envelope
Switching frequency is programmable from 200 kHz to 2.2 MHz via a resistor on the RT pin.
Package and rework reality
The 32-LQFN (6x4 mm) is a QFN-style package with a large exposed pad underneath. Without them, the part will current-limit or shut down long before reaching 8 A. Rework is doable with hot air if the board has a bottom-side preheat. The pad is large enough that the part self-centers during reflow if the solder paste is even. Pin 1 is marked by a chamfer on the top-side corner — verify orientation under a scope before placing; a 180° rotation puts the output on the input pins and lets the magic smoke out.
Sourced through independent distribution channels.
