Wide-input buck for 5A rails — the Silent Switcher®1 trade-off
The Analog Devices LT8640IUDCF#TRPBF is a step-down switching regulator from the Silent Switcher®1 family, designed to deliver up to 5A from a 3.4V to 42V input rail. It integrates the synchronous rectifier, so the external BOM stays lean — just the inductor, input/output caps, and feedback divider. The adjustable switching frequency from 210kHz to 2MHz lets you optimise for efficiency (lower frequency) or inductor size (higher frequency). The 20-QFN (3x4) package with wettable flank supports automated optical inspection, which is useful for production lines that rely on AOI after reflow.
42V input, 5A output — where the headroom matters
The 42V maximum input covers 24V industrial rails with margin for transients, as well as 12V automotive systems that see load-dump spikes. The 5A continuous output is enough for FPGAs, processors, or multiple downstream LDOs. Because the part is rated for junction temperatures up to 125°C, it can run in sealed enclosures or under-hood environments without derating the output current. The adjustable output down to 0.97V means it can power low-voltage cores directly.
There is no last-time-buy clock running.
