Hot swap controller for 10.8V to 36V backplanes
The Analog Devices LT4254CGN#PBF is a single-channel hot swap controller designed to manage inrush current and provide fault protection for boards plugged into a live backplane or power bus. It operates from a 10.8V to 36V supply and draws 1.9 mA supply current. The controller does not integrate a pass FET — you add an external N-channel MOSFET sized for your load current. Programmable features include auto retry, current limit, fault timeout, latched fault, overvoltage protection (OVP), slew rate control, and undervoltage lockout (UVLO). This set covers the main protection axes needed for a controlled board insertion: limit the surge, clamp the voltage, and decide whether to retry or latch off after a fault.
16-SSOP — rework and footprint notes
The LT4254CGN#PBF comes in a 16-SSOP package (0.154" body width, 3.90 mm width). It is a surface-mount part. Rated for the commercial temperature range of 0°C to 70°C, so it is suited for indoor equipment, telecom racks, and general-purpose backplane applications where the ambient stays within that window. Not rated for industrial or automotive environments.
Active production, no LTB risk
It is also ROHS3 compliant, so it meets the current EU restriction requirements for lead-free assembly. No lead (Pb) in the plating or solder terminations.
