The LT3684EMSE#PBF is a step-down (buck) switching regulator from Analog Devices, delivering a continuous 2A output from a 3.6V to 34V input rail. The adjustable output is set via an external resistor divider from a 1.265V reference up to 20V.

Switching frequency and thermal design

At higher frequencies the external inductor and output capacitor shrink, but the internal FET switching losses rise — the 2A output ceiling is derated above 1MHz in a compact layout. Without adequate thermal vias under the pad, the regulator thermally limits before reaching 2A in a 70°C ambient.
