Package and field-swap story
The LT1074CT7#PBF comes in a through-hole TO-220-7 package with formed leads — the kind you can swap on a bench or in a panel with a basic iron and solder sucker. No hot-air station needed, no reflow profile to dial in. The formed leads mean it sits flat on the board without extra bending, and the tab is the thermal pad: bolt it to a heatsink if you are pushing the 5.5 A switch current.
This is a multi-topology regulator — buck, boost, or flyback — so a single BOM line covers step-down, step-up, or isolated designs. The 5.5 A switch current is the internal FET limit; the actual output current depends on the topology and input-to-output voltage ratio. At 100 kHz switching, the inductor is physically larger than a modern 500 kHz part, but the low frequency keeps switching noise out of sensitive analog rails — good for audio or instrumentation supplies. Input range is 8 V to 45 V, output adjustable from 2.5 V to 35 V. The 2.5 V minimum output means it cannot generate a sub-2.5 V rail directly — you would need a post-regulator LDO for 1.8 V or 1.2 V logic.
For a through-hole part with this kind of topology flexibility, it is a stable line-item for both new builds and legacy board repairs.
