Precision shunt reference in a SOT-23-3 — what it delivers
The Analog Devices LM4050BEM3-4.1+T is a precision shunt voltage reference that delivers a fixed 4.096 V output with an initial tolerance of ±0.2% and a temperature coefficient of 50 ppm/°C. It operates over the full industrial temperature range of -40°C to 125°C, making it suitable for outdoor telecom, motor drives, and engine-bay electronics. The shunt topology means it behaves like a precision Zener diode — you set the bias current with a single resistor from the supply rail, and the reference regulates by shunting current to ground through its cathode. The 4.096 V output is a common full-scale reference for ADCs. The ±0.2% initial accuracy keeps gain error under 0.2% without external trimming.
Bias current and output drive
The LM4050BEM3-4.1+T sinks a cathode current of 73 µA typical and can source up to 15 mA to the load. That 73 µA minimum operating current sets the floor for the bias resistor — pick a resistor value that delivers at least 73 µA plus the maximum load current at the lowest supply voltage. The 15 mA output capability is enough to drive the reference input of multiple ADCs or DACs on the same rail.
Package and mounting
The part comes in a standard SOT-23-3 surface-mount package (TO-236-3 / SC-59 compatible). The three pins are cathode, anode, and no-connect.
Lifecycle and sourcing
No end-of-life or last-time-buy notices are in effect. The part is available through independent distribution channels and is sourced to order against an RFQ.
