33MHz 8051 core with 16KB flash
The DS89C430-ENL+ is an 8-bit microcontroller built around the 8051 core, clocked at 33 MHz, with 16 KB of on-chip flash program memory and 1K x 8 of RAM. This puts it in the sweet spot for legacy 8051 designs that need a speed bump without a core architecture change — the flash allows in-system firmware updates, and the 1K RAM is enough for small control loops and UART buffering. The 32 I/O lines are mapped through the 44-TQFP package (10x10 mm body), which keeps the board footprint compact for panel-mount or DIN-rail adapter cards.
Peripheral set and connectivity
On-chip peripherals include a power-fail reset and a watchdog timer (WDT) — the power-fail reset monitors the Vcc rail and holds the core in reset before the supply drops out of spec, critical for brownout immunity in industrial control. Connectivity covers EBI/EMI for external memory or parallel peripherals, plus SIO and a UART/USART for serial links to sensors, displays, or a host controller. The external oscillator type means the system clock is determined by the crystal or ceramic resonator on the board — no internal RC drift to budget, but the layout must keep the oscillator traces short and isolated from switching noise on the I/O bank.
