The DS4520E+TRL is a 9-bit I²C I/O expander from Analog Devices, clocked at 400 kHz and packaged in a 16-TSSOP. Each of the nine I/O lines is open-drain, rated for 12 mA source/sink per pin — enough to drive small LEDs, relay coils, or pull signal lines without an external buffer. On-chip EEPROM stores the I/O configuration and POR state, so the expander powers up with the correct pin directions and output levels — no host re-initialization needed after a brown-out or cold start.
