What this reset IC does and where it fits
The Maxim DS1814BR-10-U+ is a simple reset/power-on reset IC that monitors a single voltage rail and asserts a reset signal during power-up, power-down, and brownout conditions. It provides both Active High and Active Low push-pull outputs, so it can interface directly with microcontrollers or processors that require either polarity. The reset timeout is a minimum of 140 ms, long enough to let the system power supply and oscillator stabilize before the processor starts executing code. This part is suited for industrial control boards, telecom line cards, and embedded systems where a basic, non-adjustable supervisor is sufficient.
Package and mounting
Housed in a SOT-23-5 package, this is a surface-mount part that fits a compact footprint on a PCB. The five-pin layout keeps the board area small, useful when the supervisor is placed close to the processor's reset input. The operating temperature range of -40°C to 85°C covers most industrial and commercial environments but does not extend to automotive under-hood or military applications.
