Dual 10kΩ digipot with 256-tap resolution
The DS1803Z-010+T&R is a dual-channel digital potentiometer from Analog Devices, each channel offering 10kΩ end-to-end resistance with 256 wiper tap positions. The linear taper means the resistance between the wiper and either terminal changes in equal steps per tap — no logarithmic scaling, so it suits voltage-divider and gain-setting applications rather than audio volume control. Communication runs over the I²C bus, and the selectable address feature lets up to eight of these devices share the same two-wire interface without collision.
Volatile memory and industrial temperature range
The wiper position is stored in volatile memory — the setting resets to midscale on power-up and is lost when the supply drops below the minimum operating voltage. For applications that must retain the calibration or trim setting through a power cycle, a non-volatile digipot or an external EEPROM companion is needed. The wiper resistance is 400Ω typical, and the temperature coefficient is 750ppm/°C — a 10kΩ setting drifts roughly 7.5Ω per degree, which matters in precision bias or reference applications but is acceptable for general-purpose adjustment. The tolerance is ±20%, so the absolute end-to-end resistance of a given unit can range from 8kΩ to 12kΩ. This is typical for digital potentiometers and is managed by calibrating the wiper setting in-system or by using the device in a ratiometric configuration where the absolute value cancels out.
