RTC with I²C bus — what the ratings mean for the BOM
The Maxim Integrated DS1337+ is a serial real-time clock (RTC) providing clock/calendar functionality with an I²C (2-wire serial) interface. It tracks time in HH:MM:SS (12/24 hr) and date in YY-MM-DD-dd format, with integrated alarm, leap-year compensation, and a programmable square-wave output. The part is supplied in an 8-DIP through-hole package (0.300" body width, 7.62 mm pitch) and operates from a single 1.8 V to 5.5 V supply. The industrial temperature range (-40°C to 85°C) covers outdoor telecom cabinets, factory-floor controllers, and battery-backed instrumentation where the RTC must keep time across power cycles.
Timekeeping current — battery-life anchor
The DS1337+ draws a maximum timekeeping current of 0.6 µA at 1.3 V to 1.8 V on the backup supply. That figure drives the coin-cell lifetime calculation.
Active production — no LTB pressure
ROHS3 compliant. No last-time-buy notice or end-of-life timeline is published. For procurement, that means the part can be specified into new designs without obsolescence risk, and the supply channel is standard distribution — not surplus or broker.
