What the 24-SOIC footprint means for your board
The DS12R885S-33+ comes in a 24-SOIC wide-body (0.295", 7.50 mm width) surface-mount package. That footprint is standard for SOIC-300 mil — the same land pattern as most 24-pin SOIC serial EEPROMs and SRAMs, so the board layout is a drop-in if you already have that footprint on the PCB. Supply range is 2.97 V to 3.63 V on the main rail, with a separate battery-backup input accepting 2 V to 3.05 V. Timekeeping current maxes out at 2 mA across the full supply range — the battery drain during backup is low enough that a 3 V coin cell holds the RTC for years.
Integrated features beyond the clock
This is not just a timekeeper — it includes 114 bytes of NVSRAM (non-volatile SRAM) that retains data through power loss, plus a trickle-charger for maintaining a rechargeable backup battery. The alarm and square-wave output let the RTC wake a sleeping host processor without polling. The parallel interface uses a standard 8-bit bus — address and data lines are multiplexed, so it ties directly to a microcontroller's memory-mapped I/O or an FPGA's peripheral bus without glue logic. Date format is YY-MM-DD-dd; time format is HH:MM:SS with 12/24-hour selection.
