What the DS12887+ brings to a 5V RTC socket
The DS12887+ is a parallel-interface real-time clock/calendar in a 24-pin DIP module (24-EDIP). It integrates a lithium battery, crystal, and 114 bytes of NVSRAM into one through-hole package. Timekeeping draws up to 15 mA from the 4.5 V to 5.5 V main supply. When main power drops, the internal battery maintains the clock and NVSRAM contents at 2.5 V to 4 V. The 0°C to 70°C commercial temperature range fits office equipment, appliance controllers, and indoor instrumentation — not extended-temperature industrial or automotive bays.
114 bytes of NVSRAM — what it holds
The 114-byte NVSRAM is battery-backed and retains data when the system is off. That is enough for a calibration constant, a few event timestamps, or a small configuration block. It is not a general-purpose SRAM replacement; treat it as a nonvolatile scratchpad that survives power cycles without external EEPROM.
Lifecycle and sourcing posture
The DS12887+ carries an Active lifecycle status and is RoHS3 compliant.
